I Was Pregnant at My Wedding — Then Another Pregnant Woman Stopped the Ceremony and Said He Was Her Baby’s Father Too

Chapter 29: The Other Bride

Julian’s number changed the shape of the room.

Not loudly.

Worse.

Quietly.

Ethan was weak enough to pressure Clara himself. Margaret was proud enough to do it in person.

Julian calling a project board for Hayes family interests meant the best man was not a loose thread.

He was still being pulled.

Olivia sat cross-legged on the floor with her laptop open, Daniel on speaker, and biscuits balanced on the trust folder.

“I am searching public records,” she said before Daniel could object.

“Public. Legal. Boring. Please do not start breathing like a disappointed headmaster.”

Daniel paused. “I was not breathing like that.”

“You absolutely were.”

Clara sat at the table and watched Julian’s public profile load.

Smiling at race days.

Smiling at charity dinners.

Smiling beside Ethan in university photographs.

Olivia searched his name with Vanessa’s.

Nothing at first.

Then too much noise.

Wedding posts. Comments. Clips from the livestream.

People calling Clara cold.

People calling Vanessa brave.

Olivia changed search terms.

Julian Marks Vanessa Cole engagement objection.

The first result was a cached forum discussion from eighteen months earlier.

Not news.

Not official.

A local gossip thread about an engagement party at a coastal hotel.

Olivia clicked.

The thread title appeared.

Pregnant woman interrupts engagement dinner, groom walks out.

Clara’s stomach tightened.

Daniel said, “Read carefully. Verify dates.”

Olivia scrolled.

The story was messy, half rumour and half screenshots, but the shape was unmistakable.

A woman had arrived at an engagement dinner, claimed the groom promised her a future, and produced messages.

The bride had left. The groom’s family had paid for silence, according to one comment.

No name at first.

Then a blurry photo appeared in a reply.

A woman in a dark green dress outside a hotel bar.

Olivia zoomed.

Vanessa.

Younger by a year and a half.

But the face was hers.

Clara felt something settle heavily inside her.

Not surprise.

Confirmation.

“She has done this before,” Olivia whispered.

Daniel corrected her. “She appears to have been involved in a similar incident. We need stronger confirmation.”

Olivia scrolled further.

Another comment.

The man was called Marcus Bell. Worked in finance. Family paid everyone off.

Marcus Bell.

Daniel went silent.

Clara heard it.

“What?”

“Send me that name.”

Olivia did.

For several minutes, the only sound was Daniel typing on his end.

Then he said, “Marcus Bell was a financial consultant.”

Clara closed her eyes.

“Hayes?” Olivia asked.

“Not directly. But he worked for a firm that advised several family offices, including one connected to Hayes Holdings during a restructuring period two years ago.”

The room went still.

The old incident was not old gossip now.

It was a bridge.

Clara asked, “Was Julian connected to him?”

“I am checking.”

Olivia had already found something.

She turned the laptop.

A charity dinner photograph.

Julian Marks, Marcus Bell, Ethan Hayes, and Richard Hayes stood in a row under soft gold lighting.

Richard.

There he was.

Not named by Vanessa. Not called by Ethan. Not standing in Olivia’s kitchen.

But present.

Always present.

Clara leaned closer.

Richard had one hand on Marcus Bell’s shoulder. Julian stood at the edge, smiling with the same polite vacancy he had worn beside the chapel door.

Olivia’s voice was small now. “This was two months before that engagement incident.”

Daniel spoke slowly. “Save it. Archive the page. Do not contact anyone.”

Clara stared at Vanessa’s blurred face outside the old hotel.

A woman who knew how to enter at the worst possible moment.

A finance man connected to Hayes.

Julian near both doors.

Richard in the background before anyone thought to look for him.

Her phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

Not her usual unknown.

A different one.

I was the other bride.

Clara stopped breathing.

Then another message appeared.

Vanessa did not act alone then either.
