Her Best Friend Took Her Money And Her Man, But One Receipt Burned Their Lies Down

Chapter 9: The Toast That Burned Them Down

Anna placed the hotel receipt on the table first.

Not in front of Nora.

In front of Caleb and Megan.

Caleb looked at it and went pale before anyone read a word.

Megan stared at the paper as if it were a snake.

Nora spoke calmly because calm carried farther than shouting.

“This receipt is for a double suite, champagne service, and late checkout.”

She turned it toward the nearest guests.

“The registered guests were Caleb Turner and Megan Price.”

A sound moved through the room.

Megan stood too quickly. “That is not what it looks like.”

Nora looked at her. “Then you will enjoy the next page.”

Victor handed out copies of the payment record.

“The charge came from my wedding account.”

Caleb pushed back his chair. “Nora, stop.”

She did not look at him.

Anna placed the venue invoice beside the hotel receipt.

“Private room.”

“Partner accommodation.”

“Champagne service.”

“Approved by Caleb Turner.”

Nora pointed to the handwritten note.

“Bride must not see this invoice.”

That sentence did what shouting could not.

It made every guest understand.

Megan’s mother covered her mouth.

Caleb’s father stared at his son as if seeing him under harsh light for the first time.

Megan began crying, but the tears had poor timing now.

“I was struggling,” she said. “Nora knows I was struggling.”

Nora opened the next page.

“Here are the transfers I sent when you said your mother was in hospital.”

Victor placed the account summary on the table.

“Here are the restaurant, hotel, spa, jewellery, and boutique charges that followed.”

Megan said, “She is twisting everything.”

Anna spoke from the side. “The records are from our billing system.”

Victor added, “And the bank exports confirm source and timing.”

The photographer connected a small screen near the wall.

Images from the engagement party appeared.

Caleb’s hand at Megan’s back.

Megan whispering near his ear.

The private smile at the bar.

Nothing illegal.

Everything true.

Then Nora placed the final receipt on the table.

The white dress order.

Megan made a sound that broke halfway.

Nora read it aloud.

“Customer: Megan Price.”

“Billing: Nora Ellis Wedding Account.”

“Collection: wedding morning.”

The room erupted in whispers.

Caleb turned to Megan. “You ordered a white dress?”

Megan turned on him. “You said she would cancel once she found out.”

There it was.

Clean.

Public.

Impossible to gather back.

Nora removed her engagement ring.

She placed it on top of the receipt stack.

“You can keep each other,” she said.

Then she looked at the folder under Victor’s hand.

“I am keeping the evidence.”

Caleb whispered, “Nora, please.”

She looked at him one last time.

“No more payments.”
